When asked about recent layoffs at ZTE, Mr. Peng said that there are no job layoffs; it’s just the layoff of poor performing employees. Every year there are promotions and increments to our best performing employees and the poor performing employees are laid off. This is a very common method practiced in all the companies.
Speaking about India’s role in the ZTE’s global expansion plan, Mr. Peng said that India is one of the most important overseas markets for the company and the company has a large employee base in India. The company enjoys a good market share of 10-15 per cent in India.
When asked about the backlash in media and certain sections of government about the Chinese companies overtaking our economy, Mr. Peng said that there has been total cooperation from the government.
The company is eyeing on 5G technology and ZTE is the first company to apply for the 5G memo. The company is finding a way to apply the future technology to the current technology to promote the customer experience.
ZTE’s plan to associate with Make in India is on its way. Mr. Peng said that the company is looking to enhance its business in India to serve customers in a better way.
