Lava Mobiles introduced a new handset called the KKT Ultra+ Union which is a Rs. 1500 feature phone. There isn’t anything quite unique about the handset and frankly for a slightly higher price one can get a much more feature equipped smartphone.
The only USP of the mobile phone is that it is the first of its kind handset in the market which supports 22 official Indian languages. These include English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Manipuri, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Users will also be able to send and receive SMS in all 22 languages.
The company says that the KKT Ultra+ Union is targeted to reduce the communication gap that emerges due to language barriers among people belonging to different parts of the country. While this sounds great, it is not a smartphone which means that the user would be limited when it comes to connectivity and internet features. The device features a tiny 2.4 inch display and has dual-SIM card slots however you don’t get 4G or 3G, only 2G. There is a 1750 mAh Li-ion battery offering a talk time of 18 hours. Other features include FM Radio and a VGA camera as well as Bluetooth.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Gaurav Nigam, Head Product, Lava International said, “We at Lava are delighted to introduce KKT Ultra + Union, a device which is in line with our company’s mission to empower people to do more and be more by making valuable technologies accessible. Through this phone we want to bridge the language barrier and enable people to express themselves in their own language with their near and dear ones across the country. The launch of KKT Ultra + Union is another step towards strengthening our support to the government’s Make in India and Digital India initiative. It is a perfect phone which is Made in India and Made for India and we aim to celebrate this diversity and promote traditional regional languages in future also.”
