The Odyssey of KEEMS:
Kuriakose Elias School began its journey on July 16, 1991, as an unaided English medium school, recognised by the government of Kerala. In June 1995, Kindergarten Section and Day Care Centre was added to the school. Kuriakose Elias English Medium School got affiliated to the ICSE board in February 2002 and then added the Higher Secondary Section (ISC). In July 2002, the recognised state syllabus was upgraded to a higher secondary school with courses in Science, Commerce and Computer Science. Kuriakose Elias English Medium School is a group of two different schools affiliated to ICSE Board and Kerala state with different sections for each stream.
Education/ Academics:
With academic excellence as the major focal point, the school insists on a multi-dimensional learning experience with improved systems like Xseed. With strength of 2,400 students ranging from play school to higher secondary and 120 teachers, it is one of the most renowned schools in India. From KG to Standard X there are four divisions each, of which two follow state syllabus and the latter ICSE. In the higher secondary section alone, we have a total of 18 divisions, with nine batches each in plus one and plus two. The student teacher ratio is maintained as 20: 1. The average strength of students in each class is 40. All compulsory subjects like English, Malayalam, Hindi, Social Studies, Basic Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics etc. are taught in the primary and preprimary sections. The ICSE board offers the option to choose between the second languages and a detailed study of Social Studies and Science is effected by concentrating on the different areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Science and History, Civics and Geography in Social Studies.
The Higher Secondary section streams into Science and Commerce; with combinations of Biology-Maths/ Maths-Computer Science along with other core subjects like English, Physics, Chemistry and second language. The ISC Board follows the same combination of subjects, let alone the second language. The commerce stream, affiliated to the state syllabus, offers English, second language, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics and Computer Application.
Scholarships:
In addition to these core subjects, other supporting scholastic programmes like orientation programmes, career guidance classes, exposure to workshops and exhibitions, competitive examinations like IAPT Olympiad, SOF Olympiad, KVPY etc are also included.
The school is proud of its students, parents and teachers. Contributions of all the concerned along with the blessing of the Almighty strengthened through the intercession of the founder Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara leads KEEMS Mannanam to the heights.
