Karnataka has entered into five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading technology companies to train one lakh individuals in advanced technologies within the next year.
The MoUs are part of the newly launched Nipuna Karnataka initiative, which aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the tech sector, with the target of placing 70 per cent of the trainees in relevant roles. The MoUs were signed at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2024 (BTS).
Under the initiative, Microsoft will train 10,000 individuals per year in deep tech, while Intel will provide training to 20,000 trainees per year in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Accenture has committed to training 10,000 people in emerging technologies, including cybersecurity and quantum computing. IBM will train the largest cohort, with 50,000 individuals to be equipped with skills in AI and cloud technologies. Additionally, the BFSI Consortium will train 10,000 trainees, focusing on skills relevant to the banking, financial services, and insurance sectors.
The Karnataka government also revealed plans to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Artificial Intelligence, which will be spearheaded by the IIT Alumni Center Bangalore (IITACB).
In another major initiative, the state government launched the Startup Springboard programme. This programme has been debuted to support Karnataka’s startup ecosystem by providing access to investors, mentors, infrastructure, and training.
