Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India has announced product recall of an estimated 1,200 units of its newly launched Jeep Compass SUV in the country, for replacement of the front passenger air bag.
This is part of 7,000 units of Jeep Compass recall initiated by FCA US in November 2017. The number of affected Jeep Compass SUVs in India is expected to be less than one per cent of the total recall population.
After the recall announcement, we are presenting you with a list of top five most recalled vehicles in India, on the basis of individual company reports and data by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) (data compiled from August 2012 – November 2017).
1. Honda City – 482,555 Units
Honda Cars India’s best-selling sedan is the most recalled passenger vehicle in the country. Till date, 482,555 units of Honda City have been recalled with the recent recall happened in January 2017. Most of the time, Honda City recall have happened due to faulty front airbags.
2. Ford Figo - Over 160,150 Units
In August 2012, certain units of Ford Figo were recalled for crack in Rear Twist Beam and for oil leak in the power steering hose system. This recall was extended in September 2013. In April 2016, Ford India recalled 42,300 units of Figo along with Figo Aspire. The most recent Figo announcement came in June 2017.
3. Chevrolet Tavera – 114,000 Units
Tavera was recalled just once in June 2013 to address emissions and specifications issues.
4. Chevrolet Beat – 101,597 Units
General Motors India's hatchback Chevrolet Beat was also announced just once in December 2015 to inspect and if necessary replace clutch pedal lever, which is susceptible to cracking on continuous use.
5. Mahindra XUV500 – 84,695 Units
XUV500 was recalled twice. In March 2013, 24,695 units were recalled for oil seepage, and another 60,000 in February 2015 for up gradation of the side curtain airbag software.
