As "Industry 4.0," is shaping the future of work and offering new career opportunities across the globe, it is necessary that India's youth be prepared to compete on a global level amid the technological advances, according to industry experts.
Notably, the internet economy and emerging technologies are creating new opportunities for India's youth in a number of industries, including IT and ITES. These sectors are the major drivers of the Indian economy and are expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
India's growing internet economy, digitisation and emerging technologies such as internet of things (IoT) are creating innovation and opening new employment opportunities for the country's youth, said P Balaji, Director, Vi Foundation and Chief Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Officer, Vodafone Idea in New Delhi.
While speaking at an event, he said that to cater to the digital needs of tomorrow, India's youth should be future-ready to contribute to the economic growth of the nation.
"We at Vi Foundation strongly believe that through partnerships, we can create an ecosystem for our youth to thrive. With the IoT Centre of Excellence, our aim is to skill the youth in new technologies to drive innovation and propel India's digital transformation," Balaji added.
While highlighting the government's ambitious goal of a USD 1 trillion digital contribution in the coming years, he emphasised the vital role of partnerships in creating an ecosystem for youth to thrive in the digital era.
K K Dwivedi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship emphasised, "With India's global digital prominence and transformation with 5G, there will be a need to bridge the gap in the workforce, especially with new technological changes. We anticipate similar initiatives in diverse sectors, preparing our youth for the digital job market."
Dwivedi added that a partnership-led model like this addresses the urgent need for skilled professionals in the ever-evolving telecom and technology sectors, particularly with the advent of new technologies such as 5G and IoT.
Meanwhile, Arvind Bali, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) said, "It is very important for today's youth to not just limit themselves to theoretical knowledge but delve themselves into the practical aspects of it as well and be able to become entrepreneurs and monetize their work and contribution. You will not be just job seekers but employers."
