The nation mourns the loss of Ratan Tata, a distinguished industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons, whose passing has left a significant void in Indian industry and society. Known for his transformative leadership of the Tata Group and his immense contributions to philanthropy, Ratan Tata’s legacy extends far beyond business, touching the lives of millions. Today, as India pays its final respects, the Maharashtra government has declared a day of mourning in his honour.
The public will have the opportunity to pay tribute to Ratan Tata at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, with doors open from 10 AM to 4 PM. Following this public homage, his mortal remains will be taken to the Prayer Hall at the Worli Crematorium, where his final rites will be conducted in accordance with Parsi traditions.
A large number of prominent industrial leaders are expected to attend the last rites. These include Mukesh Ambani and Anant Ambani of Reliance Industries, N. R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys, Kumar Mangalam Birla from the Aditya Birla Group, and Shashikant Das, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Many other notable figures from India’s business community, such as Harsh Goenka, Gautam Adani, Anand Mahindra, and Uday Kotak, will also be present to pay their respects.
Along with the industrial leaders, a host of political figures from across the country will attend. Among them are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Delhi’s former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Chief ministers from several states, including Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh and Nitish Kumar of Bihar, are also expected to be in attendance, reflecting Tata’s widespread influence and respect across political lines.
The film industry, which has had a long-standing connection with the Tata family, will be represented by many of its leading stars. Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Rajinikanth and Salman Khan are among those who will be paying their respects.
