On 6 November, the world’s oldest democracy, the United States of America, announced its next President. Donald Trump’s ascent to the White House for the second time is anticipated to have wide ramifications for Indo-US relations, particularly in the defence, energy and technology sectors. During his previous tenure, Trump had focused on expanding trade volumes, easing regulatory constraints and enhancing partnerships that align with India’s growth ambitions. Although a US focus on ‘fair trade’ could mean fresh tariffs, his pro-business approach and commitment to strengthening bilateral ties have the potential to benefit India’s economy and reinforce its global standing. We bring you vignettes of comments and opinion on this change of guard in the United States.
The Diwali celebrations in the capital were somewhat marred by the passing of the Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) Dr Bibek Debroy. A polymath and a scholar, Dr Debroy had found time to contribute to BW Businessworld as a columnist. His presence and wisdom had touched many lives and his mentees and scholars associated with him, write in this issue and on the BW Businessworld website, about his intellectual brilliance, warmth and benevolence.
The cover theme of this edition is the annual BW Businessworld property, the Most Valuable CEOs, who have set the standard for resilience, adaptability and enduring value creation in times of economic uncertainty. We feature a select group of exceptional leaders, whose vision helped their companies weather turbulent markets and demonstrate strategic insight and operational excellence to secure sustainable growth and consistent returns. Their stories offer valuable lessons in leadership, strategic foresight, and the disciplined pursuit of excellence, illuminating what it takes to succeed in today’s challenging business landscape.
Our knowledge partner, TechSci Research, who play an integral role in refining the BW Real 500 and Most Respected Companies lists, also partner with us for this issue. Through a rigorous selection process, companies were evaluated based on total income, turnover and consistent performance. We have taken care to present these companies not in hierarchical ranking but as an editorially curated collection of profiles to celebrate their enduring success. True leadership, as illustrated by these remarkable individuals, is not confined to setting growth targets. It is about charting a course that balances ambition with responsibility. This entails defining a robust growth strategy, securing the resources needed to execute it and maintaining a vigilant eye on cost efficiencies.
We hope this edition provides both inspiration and insight, celebrating the enduring values that define exceptional leadership. Of course, we also bring to you all our regular columns and features.
Happy reading!
