Registering a 7 per cent decline on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the cumulative gross domestic box office collection across languages from January to October 2024 stood at Rs 8,951 crore, according to a report by Ormax Media. However, there still exists a possibility of collections matching the 2023 levels on the back of strong opening performances of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in November and the upcoming release of Pushpa 2: The Rule in December, as per the report.
The report titled ‘The India Box Office Report’ highlighted that the films released in October 2024 grossed Rs 994 crore at the domestic box office, including the projected future collections of October releases still running in theatres. As per the report, Led by Amaran and Vettaiyan, Tamil cinema was the highest contributor to this month’s India box office, with almost 50 per cent of the month’s collections coming from Tamil films, including their dubbed versions in other Indian languages.
As far as the month-wise gross domestic box office across languages in 2024 is concerned, August has proved to be the best month this year so far with Rs 1,290 crore, followed by June with Rs 1,254 crore and September with Rs 1,087 crore. April has fared the least in terms of collections with Rs 459 crore. Kalki 2898 AD emerged as the top release this year so far With 776 crore gross domestic box office across all language versions.
On the language share of gross domestic box office from January to October 2024 front, Hindi secured the top spot with 34 per cent share, while Telugu managed to be at the second spot with a share of 21 per cent. Tamil also dominated the charts and ended up in third place with an 18 per cent share. Hollywood ended up in a good position, too, with a share of 8 per cent, as per the report.
