'India Will Create 30 Lakh Jobs In IT Sector By 2030'

Minister of IT and Technology, Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad said the IT industry will create 30 lakh jobs by 2030, at a time when the Indian IT and ITes industry in reeling under recession and under deep stress to create jobs. “Indian domestic IT market offers strong prospects for industry growth even if global markets were to face challenges,” said Prasad. He said Indian IT sector employment prospects, both in the near and long-term are broadly positive and encouraging for the future. India IT companies will create 25-30 lakh jobs by 2030, he predicted.

Speaking in BW Businessworld’s third Digital India Summit held here in New Delhi, Prasad said technology is enabled to empower to the power, underprivileged and the poor of India. Basking in the glory of Modi government’s three years of governance today, Prasad used the platform to count numerous achievements of the government. “India a great country for tech innovation, ready to be a $ 1 trillion economy by 2020,” said Prasad.

Prasad said a major push will be given to services and offerings in the digital space over the coming years with a focus on startups, new age IT solutions, financial technologies and cyber security. “We have roped in McKinsey & Co to pace up the growth of digital services in the country as it expects the turnover of digital, communications and IT industry to grow four-fold to 1 trillion by 2022 against $280 billion currently.

Prasad spoke in length about the affordability of technology- and the huge success of Aadhar card, an UPA government initiative, showcasing his own Aadhar card to the amused audience, he said now Indians from lower strata have been empowered with this coveted card with already 1.25 billion registered users. He spoke of the employability that was created in hinterland created by Aadhar card because of what he described as ‘Digital literacy’ and ‘Digital delivery’ citing that it has employed 2,50,000 people through the movement of common service centre, the earnings quoted by him was Rs 2400 crore, Rs 1800 crore out of which was earned by delivery services and Rs 600 crore was earned by 10 lakh young men.

He said in order to fill the digital gap between the rural and urban areas, for the former’s quest to earn a good living while still living in their own village.

Speaking of Modi governments major achievements in the IT sector, he spoke of e-hospitals, e-mandis, e-scholarships for making life simpler for the common man. Prasad said the government has changed India’s image in the global world, citing BCG report on India wherein it states that India’s digital payment industry alone is $500 billion by 2020. He spoke of Modified specialised schemes and India becoming a hub of electronic manufacturing.
