Highlighting that institutional capacity building will play a crucial role, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated that the country is on the right track towards achieving the status of Viksit Bharat (developed India) by 2047. The minister emphasised the efforts of the Centre to enhance the self-sufficiency in defence capabilities.
Speaking at Pondy Lit Fest on Sunday, the minister highlighted the need to prioritise the Indian economy and take care of the baking sector to achieve the targets. “We will also need to look after our banks, overall infrastructure, the health of the companies in the market and prioritising the digitisation of the Indian economy,” stated the minister.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has a roadmap in place to transition from a developing nation to a developed nation by the time the country celebrates its hundred years of independence (2047). The government calls it Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Finance Minister stated, “If you are looking at what the future entails for India and how we are going to reach the destination of Viksit Bharat 2047, we are on the right track in that. We have prioritised our national security.”
Highlighting that the Centre had never compromised spending on defence-related aspects, she attacked Congress by stating that the earlier regime considered that spending on investments in border villages was not the right thing to do.
Stating that the government has brought various sectors together, the Finance Minister stated that the country needs to look after the strength of the banks along with the health of the companies. “What has made a big difference to India, particularly in its economy is, bringing together all sections towards the mainstream economic activity which is digitising the economy.”
Sitharaman stated that the Indian economy has got strength from below and little wheels are moving which has made the giant wheel the Indian economy, easier to move.
