India believes in oneness with nature and is not ready to go down that path. Our path is the carbon-neutral developmental path. We are not just after economic development but sustainable economic development. This was stated by Bhupendra Yadav, Union Cabinet Minister, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Labour & Employment at the 3rd Edition of the Sustainable World Conclave 2023.
Paising the event, the minister said that the increased focus on environment and the larger issues of sustainability at media conclaves give hope that a Greener India is indeed a possibility. As governments make policies, it is media that helps in mobilising public opinion and inspiring action.
According to Yadav, “We cannot have the technology to overpower the ecosystem, we must develop the empathy to coexist with it.”
He concluded by saying, “Holding the G20 Presidency under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is pushing this approach to be a part of the global understanding. With India taking over the G20 Presidency, the discourse around sustainable development especially in the UN critical decade of attention has caught global attention.”
He further added, "While, economic growth since the industrial revolution has granted countries with greater economic prosperity, it also entailed a grave cost on the environment. India, as a country which believes in Oneness with Nature, is not ready to go down that path. Our path is the carbon neutral development path. We are not just after economic development but sustainable economic development."
