Professor Uttam Kumar Sarkar has resigned from the post of Director at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM) as per industry sources.
IIM-C appointed Sarkar as the director in August 2021 when he took over from Subir Bhattacharya, who was serving as the director-in-charge of the institute.
Sarkar has been a faculty at the institute three times, first from 1997 to 2000, again from 2002 to 2006 and finally since 2008. BW Businessworld understands he resigned from the director post last week.
Sarkar obtained his BTech, MTech and PhD degrees in computer science and engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He is a leading researcher in the field of information systems, with numerous publications in international journals. He has experience in key leadership roles in India and extensive exposure to universities and academic communities worldwide.
