Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) board will conduct board examination for classes 5th and 8th from 2018 in order to assess the performance of students of the prescribed syllabus.
“With the introduction of the CISCE curriculum, it becomes important to ensure that progression of students against the defined learning outcomes is carefully monitored,” said Gerry Arathoon, CISCE Chief Executive & Secretary.
He further added, "The council plans to do this through assessment, which will be conducted at the levels of Class 5 and Class 8 in four subjects."
The test subjects are English, mathematics, science (including physics, chemistry and biology) and social studies (including history and civics, geography).
There will be no pass-fail tags and the board curriculum will be implemented for all classes from Nursery to XII. The new assessment will test the learning of the students and prepare them for competitions from an early stage.
Mandatory training programmes will be organised for the teachers to make them convenient with the new system.
The questions will be prepared by the board and the examination copies will be likewise evaluated by the faculties of other schools.
The board has introduced a new ‘Digital Subject Selection’ platform that will help the students to select their choice of trade for the right future path; and will be available for students of classes 7th and 10th.
The board CEO said, “CISCE board has also introduced a new facility of Digi-locker for students to save their documents and files which will be linked to their Aadhar card.
He further explained, "The lockers will be a government owned cloud storage and will allow the students to share these documents with others.”
Sanskrit will be made compulsory from Class 5th to 8th by the council.
Performing Arts and Yoga will be made mandatory from Nursery to Class 8th.
