Chinese smartphone and network equipment maker Huawei announced its first smartwatch for the India market today which will be exclusively going on sale on Flipkart starting at Rs 22,999.
The smartwatch runs on the Android Wear platform and according the company takes inspiration from the high-quality Swiss watches. The watch was first showcased back at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2015 and has been selling in a bunch of markets since September.
The watch has been made using premium materials and features a fully circular 1.4-inch 42mm diameter AMOLED touch-display with a 400x400 resolution offering a contrast ratio of 10000:1, which pretty high for a smartwatch. The display is protected with a scratch-proof sapphire crystal glass and there is a cold-forged stainless steel frame.
The specifications sound similar to most of the Android Wear smartwatches including a 1.2Ghz quad-core processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Other features include a built-in heart rate monitor with 6-Axis motion sensors, IP67 certification for water-resistance and a 300mAH battery which would be charged using a magnetic pogo charging dock. The watch will come with a variety of watch faces from Huawei and many others will be available from the Google Play Store.
The price sounds competitive and should rival the Moto 360 2nd Gen, Samsung Gear S2 and the Apple Watch all of which are priced in this range. Compared to the Moto 360- 2nd-Gen, it feels lighter and a bit more refined. Huawei has confirmed that a few premium versions and a special women’s version of the watch will be launched soon and the company will also be bringing replaceable bands that use a similar mechanism as the Moto 360 2nd Gen. The watch will be available through other channels in a few months but currently one can only get one from Flipkart.
