According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Huawei plans to deploy its next AI chip, the Ascend 910C, in China as early as October. This decision is in response to recent US government limitations preventing Nvidia from selling its H100 chips to Chinese consumers because to security concerns.
The Ascend 910C is now being tested in the region, and Huawei is in the process of negotiations with potential clients, the WSJ stated. The release of this chip signals Huawei's attempt to compete directly with Nvidia in the Chinese market, filling the void left by U.S. sales prohibitions.
The US government's restrictions on Nvidia's H100 processors have created an opening for Huawei to introduce its own AI chip technology. The Ascend 910C could be an option for Chinese enterprises seeking sophisticated AI capabilities without relying on US technology.
