If I now go back to school, can it lift me from where I am, my existing career path, and put me on a separate, higher career trajectory? That’s exactly what the Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Business Management (PGDM-BM) programme at Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon helps one achieve. Participants of this programme come with a wealth of experience and some understanding of organisations. What MDI Gurgaon tries to do through the PGDM-BM programme is weave together the participant’s work experience and understanding of management theories, concepts and ideas and make these into something called management insights.
Developing Leaders who Excel: An 18-month full time residential programme, the PGDM-BM, focuses on developing leaders who will excel in the rapidly changing business environment, become agents of change and be charged with a customer-centric orientation. Many of the programme’s participants are individual contributors to organisations or managers of smaller teams. What the PGDM-BM does is broaden those horizons and perspectives. It shapes the participants to be able to lead an entire business or an organisation tomorrow.
The programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and accredited by the Association of MBAs, UK. The participants are professionals with a minimum work experience of five years. So, if one is at an entry-level or mid-level job in the corporate or public sector, this programme helps her or him to escalate the career to higher level positions, be it consulting or technology or finance or cognitive training or analytics.
The programme starts with the participants being taken to a three-four days’ leadership outbound immersive experience. Thereafter, there is a two-week international or rural immersion, followed by an integrated capstone simulation project where the participants assimilate all their learning. After that, there is a report-writing or project-writing workshop. Finally, the participants go for a three-month dissertation, comprising a total 15 months of classroom and three months of in-company dissertation.
Enriching the Experience: During the course of the programme, the participants get to interact with industry leaders by way of guest lectures. Teaching is based on recent research studies and international experience. It includes lectures, case studies, seminars, group discussions, business games, role plays, simulation exercises, structured and unstructured group work and field visits. The emphasis is on motivating the participants to integrate the concepts, learnt across the core curriculum, and apply them to their own work experience and contemporary business situations.
There are four awards up for grabs: the Prime Minister’s Medal for best overall performance in the programme; the Finance Minister’s Medal for the best performance in the Finance elective course; the Department of Personnel, Government of India, Medal for the best performance in the Human Resource Management elective course; and the ITC Medal for the best performance in the Marketing elective course.
The programme graduates are today working in leading Fortune 500 companies. Whether it be HSBC or Standard Chartered or the Big Four global accounting networks or Microsoft or Accenture or Google Cloud, you name it, and you will find a Mandevian there.
A pioneer in executive graduate programme, MDI Gurgaon is now celebrating its 50 years of existence. When one is at MDI Gurgaon, one gets ready for the future of work.
