The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council may explore imposing an 18 per cent GST on payment aggregators (PAs), such as BillDesk and CCAvenue, for small digital transactions up to Rs 2,000 made using debit and credit cards. The GST Council's next meeting is set for September 9.
According to a CNBC TV18 report, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Fitment Panel has stated that payment aggregators should not be categorised as banks because they function as middlemen in transactions.
As a result, the fitment committee favours charging these Payment Aggregators (PAs) with GST. Payment aggregators are now excluded from GST on transactions totalling less than Rs 2,000 per the current legislation.
