Greg Brockman, co-founder of OpenAI, has returned to the artificial intelligence startup following a three-month leave from his role as president. Announcing his return on the social media platform X, Brockman shared his enthusiasm to resume work, calling his break the “longest vacation of [his] life” and expressing eagerness to "get back to building" at OpenAI.
His return was confirmed by an OpenAI spokesperson, and Bloomberg News reported that Brockman is currently collaborating with CEO Sam Altman to define a new position within the company that will allow him to concentrate on substantial technical challenges.
Brockman's re-entry into OpenAI comes at a critical time for the company, which has experienced a series of high-profile departures in recent months. Former Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, as well as co-founders John Schulman and Ilya Sutskever, have all exited the organisation. Murati and Sutskever have since gone on to establish their own AI ventures, further signaling a period of significant transition for OpenAI.
OpenAI has also faced internal upheaval at the executive level. CEO Sam Altman recently returned to his role after a brief but tumultuous departure in November 2023, following an unexpected ouster by the company’s board. The board provided limited explanation for the decision, sparking industry-wide attention.
