Government is all set to filter the entry of teachers into the education system. Anil Swarup, secretary, school education ministry of human resources development (HRD) on 'The Future of Education Summit' by Businessworld announced that government is in process of accrediting the colleges imparting bachelor of education (B.Ed). “The objective is to weed out ghost colleges and breed the best teachers for our education system,” Swarup said while addressing the audience.
“Presently, there are many non-existent B.Ed colleges from where teachers are placed into government schools. However, now, we will involve third party for evaluation of these colleges and then these colleges will be accredited,” he said.
Government is also planning to introduce a system like Common Admission Test (CAT) to find high class teachers. “The idea is to bring cream of top teachers to teach students. If teachers are good, they will impart the excellent education. If they are of sub-standard quality, the quality of education can never improve,” he said. In a sector which is of Rs 42,000 crore worth has to find an answer to its sub standard education.
