The month of May started with tech layoffs, as more than 700 employees were handed the pink slips. Google also cut about 200 jobs on 1st May, according to a media report on Saturday.
The termination by Google was expected as it had already announced its layoff plan affecting approximately 12,000 employees back in January.
In the latest, the tech giant laid off employees from its ‘Core’ unit, which includes its engineering talent and key teams and is planning to hire for corresponding roles in India and Mexico. This is Google’s strategy to reorganise its Core unit which builds the technical foundation for its flagship products and also helps in protecting its user’s safety online.
The Core teams include key units from information technology, Python developer team, security foundation, technical infrastructure, core developers, app platforms and more.
