Google has introduced a new digital wallet for Android users in India, which will offer a secure way to store essential items such as cards, tickets and IDs.
According to Ram Papatla, GM & India Engineering Lead at Android, Google, the Google Wallet app is now available for download from the Play Store.
Distinct from the Google Pay app, which is primarily used for managing money and financial transactions, Google Wallet caters to non-payment related storage needs. Users can store loyalty cards, gift cards and more. This differentiation aims to streamline the user experience by segregating financial transactions and storage functionalities into two separate applications.
In a statement, Papatla said that Google Pay will continue to serve as the company’s primary payment app, confirming that "Google Pay is not going anywhere." The introduction of Google Wallet is seen as an enhancement rather than a replacement, specifically designed to meet the growing demand for digital storage solutions among Android users.
