From being one of the oldest schools offering a full-time MBA programme, FMS has today become one of the most desired b-schools. Commenced in 1954, under the aegis of the University of Delhi, it offers one of the top management courses in India today.
FMS which was established even before the IIMs came into existence, has developed its own distinct brand equity. For one, it has the lowest fee structure — Rs 25,000 for a two-year MBA programme. Two, its placements are very good. The highest salary offered in 2016 was Rs 1.05 crore.
Academics
FMS offers an MBA (Full Time), MBA (Executive), MBA (Executive) Health Care Administration and Doctoral Programmes. In addition, it also regularly conducts Management Development Programmes for executives from various organisations such as the Taj Group of Hotels, GAIL etc.
Teaching strength
“We truly believe in industry-oriented learning which is facilitated through our Edge module courses to give the students a better understanding of crucial topics like rural marketing, social business, entrepreneurship, etc., from industry experts. We also conduct a leadership talk series -- Artha-Shastra -- where business leaders from globally renowned firms give guest lectures to students to keep them updated with the latest happenings in the industry”, says Kavita Singh, Placement Convenor, FMS Delhi.
Student life
FMS became the third campus in India to be equipped with a Bloomberg terminal in the Finance Lab which helps facilitate applied research in financial markets for a better understanding. In order to learn from its alumni experiences, FMS launched the GAMA programme where the students are allocated mentors from the corporate world to help them prepare. Apart from these the students have varied societies and clubs with industry tie-ups such as consulting club to prepare for careers in consulting and management, Finance Society which hold workshops in association with brands like ICICI, Dun and Bradstreet etc.
Industry collaborations and placement
Since 1954, FMS has shown immense growth and commitment to development of management professionals providing exchange programmes and collaborative arrangements with industrial and business houses in India and abroad.
In order to promote entrepreneurship among students, FMS students are encouraged to opt for Placement Holiday — an initiative which supports and facilitates students to start their own ventures.
FMS has a legacy of securing stellar placements, both in terms of the compensation and the wide variety of profiles on offer. The average salary rose to Rs 20.5 lakh from Rs 17.04 lakh per annum last year marking a rise of 20 per cent. The median salary also crossed Rs 20 lakh recording a rise of 21 per cent over last year.
The unique quotient
FMS lays emphasis on experiential leanings. “A majority of the sessions are done through case studies. We also emphasise on industry exposure which is done through projects given to the students which require them to visit the industries themselves and understand businesses better. Since FMS is a part of DU, it is able to leverage the resources of the university and offer unparalleled exposure to the students”, says Singh.
“One more unique aspect about FMS is that it encourages entrepreneurship. We give an option to students to try their hands at entrepreneurship and in the event of it not working out as planned they can come back and sit for placements after two years”.
