Flipkart, Indian ecommerce marketplace, has achieved a milestone with the deployment of over 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in its delivery fleet. This development represents a major step in Flipkart’s commitment to a fully electric logistics network by 2030 as part of the Climate Group’s EV100 initiative.
Flipkart shared the announcement ahead of its Sustainability Action Summit 2024, set to take place on 13th November at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi.
The integration of EVs into its last-mile delivery operations has brought measurable benefits, improving delivery efficiency by 20 per cent and significantly reducing operational costs. Currently, 75 oer cent of Flipkart's EV fleet operates in Tier-1 cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
In addition, over 55 per of its grocery orders have been fulfilled by EVs since August 2024, and during the recent festive season, EVs completed 16 per cent of grocery deliveries to Tier-2+ cities, including Lucknow, Sonipat, Ludhiana, Bhubaneswar, Malda, Hubli, and Vizag, supporting sustainable, high-demand delivery periods.
To further support its EV fleet expansion, Flipkart has established 38 dedicated EV charging sites in partnership with the Adani Group, featuring 190 chargers in Tier-2 cities, with plans to expand public infrastructure to foster EV adoption. In addition, Flipkart has launched a Last-Mile Aggregator model in Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, collaborating with EV-focused fleet operators to enhance and scale its electric fleet.
“With the deployment of over 10,000 EVs, we have achieved more than just a logistical shift; this is a testament to our commitment to positive environmental impact and service efficiency,” said Hemant Badri, SVP and Group Head of Supply Chain at Flipkart. “Our expanded EV fleet, combined with investments in charging infrastructure, sets a new benchmark for sustainability and operational excellence.”
Nishant Gupta, Head of Sustainability at Flipkart, added, “Our journey toward a fully electric fleet is about creating a greener future. Our partnerships with the Climate Group’s EV100 initiative and collaborations with OEMs and EV service providers have helped us make significant strides. This shift enhances our delivery experience and contributes to cleaner cities for our customers.”
