At BW Businessworld’s Young Entrepreneur Summit and Awards 2018 conducted in New Delhi, Professor S. C. Sharma, Director, ICFAI Business School (IBS), Gurgaon spoke about the contribution that ICFAI Group has been making in the field of education with a focus on entrepreneurship.
“Entrepreneurship development is in the DNA of ICFAI Business School” is what the professor pointed out while talking about the same. He then makes a comparison between managers and entrepreneurs, “Managers' creativity is directed towards self -preservation first and hence, they tend to think about the company later whereas an entrepreneur looks for opportunities and is willing to take all risks.”
Sharma further elaborated, “An Entrepreneur is concerned with how to work, start and establish a business and how to learn further despite constraints like money, space and so on and so forth.”
“At ICFAI, out of the 40,000 people, approximately at least 10 per cent of the students do not opt for placements, they choose to become an entrepreneur, so we produce around 4,000 entrepreneurs at the very least”, the professor said.
He also talked about how 50 per cent of the faculty at ICFAI Business School (IBS) consists of those with industry experience.
“Entrepreneurship cannot be taught in isolation, it has to be built into all the subjects that we are teaching” is what Director S. C. Sharma said while talking about inculcating and learning the trade of entrepreneurship by the students at ICFAI.
Furthermore, he also elaborated by pointing out that projects are assigned to students at ICFAI Business School (IBS) so that the students are able to understand the managerial role along with its opportunities as well as the entrepreneurial side of being.
Incubation centers, events, guest lectures and courses in entrepreneurship development play a huge role in providing students the right amount of exposure.
He also announced that IIT Kharagpur and IBS Gurgaon have come together for a collaboration to work on entrepreneurship development.
