Elon Musk has issued a stark warning to Apple, stating he would prohibit the use of Apple devices at his companies if the tech giant incorporates OpenAI’s technology at the operating system level.
Describing such a move as an “unacceptable security violation,” Musk asserted that visitors to his companies would have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they would be stored in a Faraday cage to prevent any potential data breaches.
Musk’s declaration comes in response to Apple’s recent announcement of new AI features across its apps and platforms, developed in partnership with OpenAI.
However, Apple said that these features are designed with privacy in mind, using a combination of on-device processing and cloud computing to ensure robust security. But Musk criticised Apple’s reliance on OpenAI, questioning the tech giant’s capability to protect user privacy and security adequately.
Musk’s contentious relationship with OpenAI dates back to earlier this year when he sued the organization, accusing it of abandoning its founding mission to develop AI for the public good. In response, Musk launched his own AI startup, xAI, which has quickly garnered significant investment, achieving a valuation of USD 24 billion after raising USD 6 billion in its latest funding round.
