"Educational Institutes Don’t Impart Skills To Students"

The 6th AITMC Annual Global Summit 2017, partnered by BW Education, NHRD Government of India and Ministry of Labour and Empowerment, Government of India, was held in the national capital today. The event saw the presence of several industry experts discussing the importance of skilling, re-skilling and employment of students.

Lt. Gen Dr. S.P. Kochhar, CEO- TSSC, stated that the academic institutes are not synced with the industry, hurting jobs. He added, ‘educational institutes don’t impart skills to the students. For our education system to accelerate, skills and academics must go hand-in-hand’.

The event saw political presence of Mr. Tarun Chugh, National Secretary, BJP and Vijay Sampla, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment addressing the event. Mr. Chugh stressed the importance of skilling people from small villages, as they show great deal of potential. He congratulated Modi, on developing a program that involves students who miss out of schools and colleges, but are employable. He added, if the labour force of a nation turns out skilled, the nation grows. Amidst an applaud he concluded, ‘ India is in strong hands, Modi’s hand’. On the same lines, Mr. Sampla talked about an increase in employment in the small scale industry by valuing the small scale industry.

‘Aspirations of the nation are rising, with the rising goals of Indian states, because these increasing aspirations are towards a better future’, Amar Jha, CEO, Jharkhand Skill Mission. Mr. Jha talked about the innovative skill development programmes run by the Government in Jharkhand, calling it the, ‘pull effect’ or demand driven skilling. Going ahead, Mr. Jha praised the Modi government, for their vision of empowerment at a very high speed and standard. Stating the importance of education, Mr. Jha talked about, ‘Saksham Jharkhand Kaushal Vikash Yojana’, the scheme provide training and employment to more than 12,000 students every year. Similarly, ‘Mega Skill Centres’, the 15,000 sq. ft training centres by the Government of Jharkhand trains more than 68,000 employable minds every year. 

Mr. Jha discussed the importance of having educational institutes in the less developed states. He added, ‘we are also training the trainers at our centre of excellence and training of trainer’s centre, with focus on improving overall skill ecosystem’.

Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, emphasized on the excellence of, ‘Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana’, and how it has created new records of employment. He added, ‘government under this scheme covers pension of the employee for three years’. The scheme has seen tie-ups from leading job providers of India like Monster.com and HT Shine to reach out to large scale of candidates.

Highlighting the increase of literacy in India through the years, Dhananjay Singh, Director General, National HRD Network, said, ‘more than 75% of the Indians are literate and skill India is helping them prepare for the long run’.
