The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone on Friday with the successful completion of the first phase of developmental field firing trials for the Indian Light Tank, ‘Zorawar.’ The preliminary automotive trials, conducted on 13 September 2024, showcased the tank's exceptional performance in desert terrain, meeting all key objectives.
During the trials, the tank's firing capabilities were rigorously tested, with Zorawar delivering precise accuracy on designated targets. Designed for high-altitude deployment, the versatile platform demonstrated its potential in challenging environments.
Zorawar was developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), a DRDO unit, in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro. Several Indian industries, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), contributed to the development, highlighting India's growing indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh hailed the success as a major step toward achieving self-reliance in critical defense technologies. He congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army and industry partners for their collaborative efforts.
Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, also extended his congratulations to the team, commending the success of the project.
