There is no stopping for Aamir's Dangal in China. The movie ended week 2 at the Chinese box-office on an astonishing note, collecting over Rs 500 crore. With massive collections from China, the movie now stands close to Rs 1300 crore at the International box-office.
Dangal saw a worldwide release in December last year and became the highest grossing Hindi movie in India breaking the record of Aamir's previous release, 'PK'. But the release in China added a major milestone for Dangal, as it became the first Indian movie to collect more than Rs 500 crore in a single market.
Dangal engaged some serious numbers in the second weekend, collecting Rs 208 crore. The weekdays sustained Dangal's magic spree in China, adding $17 million to its kitty. Trade experts are positive about Dangal's third weekend's performance, with forecasts of some serious moolah coming in.
The movie escalated to the weekdays collecting solid $5 million on Monday, The footfalls were considerable for a working weekday. Dangal managed to get audience throughout the week, collecting $ 4.7 million on Tuesday, $4.2 million on Wednesday and ending week 2 with $3.7 million on Thursday taking the total collections to $80 million.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal stars Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra and Sakshi Tanwar in the lead. The film is produced by Disney Pictures India, UTV Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions.
The media reception for Dangal has been terrific since its debut in the Beijing International film festival. This translated into superb word of mouth from the audience. Looking at the trend, Dangal might go pass Rs 700 crore in China. However, the weekend collections can't be predicted and the toll can go much higher.
Just when Baahubali shattered all the records in the domestic and International box-office and became the first Indian film to go past Rs 1,000 crore, Bollywood's reply came in the form of Dangal. The movie has re-established the reach of Hindi movies in the International market.
