Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on the Indian industry to prioritise high-quality production to promote Brand India globally. As part of the “Make in India” campaign, Goyal emphasised the need for sustainable practices, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of "Zero Effect; Zero Defect" manufacturing.
In an interactive session with over 140 CEOs of companies benefiting from the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, the minister lauded the companies for driving innovation, creating jobs, and making India more self-reliant. He credited PLI beneficiaries for significantly boosting sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and automobiles, contributing to India’s rise as a global manufacturing hub.
Goyal stressed the importance of increasing domestic value addition, urging companies to support local manufacturers. He highlighted the need for continued dialogue between the government and industry leaders to streamline PLI scheme implementation and improve ease of doing business through law decriminalisation and liberalisation.
The PLI Scheme has so far attracted Rs 1.46 lakh crore in investments and is expected to reach Rs 2 lakh crore by next year. This has led to Rs 12.5 lakh crore in production and employment generation for 9.5 lakh people, with exports surpassing Rs 4 lakh crore. Key sectors such as mobile phone manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and electric vehicles have seen substantial growth, further solidifying India’s global competitiveness.
Goyal also encouraged collaboration between industries and the government to ensure sustained growth and foster technology transfer and foreign collaborations, with Invest India facilitating these efforts.
