Toyota Kirloskar Motor, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, is banking on its sedan Camry Hybrid as a part of its plan for electrification of vehicles.
N Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Toyota will continue to have a strong focus on Camry Hybrid in the new year as a part of its plan for electrification of vehicles. It will continue to be a significant part of Toyota product lineup.”
The automaker also mentioned that sales of Toyota Camry Hybrid were negatively impacted in 2017 with the steep rise in price post applicable tax as per GST framework.
Hybrid cars are being taxed at 43 per cent under GST, while electric vehicles are attracting 12 per cent duty.
However, Toyota Kirloskar Motor hopes that the New Year will bring in positive sentiments in the market for hybrid.

The current Toyota Camry Hybrid meets the applicable tailpipe gaseous emission levels set for the Bharat Stage VI which are due to be introduced in 2020, claims the automaker.
Camry Hybrid is manufactured at Toyota Kirloskar Motor's second plant at Bidadi.
Reiterating its Commitment to Hybridisation in India, the company on 16 November 2017, and the Government of Andhra Pradesh signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the carmaker to start the feasibility study towards introduction of “Prius PHEV” and “Small EV Commuter” into AP Government’s smart city project at Amaravathi.
This is in line with Toyota’s Environment Challenge 2050 to achieve zero CO2 emissions. Toyota globally believes that the electrification of vehicles is required to reduce CO2 emissions.
As of now, Toyota sales two hybrid/green cars in India - Camry Hybrid and Prius.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the all-new Camry Hybrid and the 4th Generation Prius in the country on 15 February 2017 for Rs 37,22,300 and Rs 44,07,00, respectively. Both the models are powered by the most advanced and eco- friendly Hybrid Synergy Drive technology.
While Toyota Camry Hybrid is the first and the only hybrid model to be manufactured in India, all-new Prius is the first Toyota vehicle to be built on Toyota New Generation Architecture.
