When the new releases failed to perform, it’s the light hearted comedy- Bareilly Ki Barfi and the popular horror flick- Annabelle: Creation took the charge to keep the box-office ship floating. Despite screen cuts in the second week, both the film have performed above par and raked in good moolah.
Talking of Bareilly Ki Barfi, the small budgeted affair is performing impressively. After a very slow start on Day-1, the film would have been easily dismissed, but the strong word of mouth and good reviews helped it post a good total on board. After posting Rs 18 crore in the first week, BKB maintained very good numbers in the second weekend. The film collected Rs 5.20 crore over the weekend, taking its collection to Rs 24 crore. The film added another Rs 1.50 crore on Monday (29th August) and Tuesday (30th August).
Looking at the low screen count for the movie in week-2, the film maintained better footfalls than A Gentleman and Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. Made at a mere budget of Rs 15 crore, the film has already raked in good profit for the makers. The comedy-drama is expected to wrap up with a lifetime total close to Rs 30 crore. BKB has maintained a very good grip over the Delhi-NCR circuit and the NCR numbers have been better than that of the Mumbai circuit.
The horror flick Annabelle: Creation continues its grand run in India. India has been one of the best performing foreign territory for the film after Mexico ($8 million). The film has raked in a total close to Rs 50 crore in India and is likely to overtake the franchise’s highest grosser- Conjuring 2 (Rs 55 crore). The numbers are extraordinary because of the fact that Annabelle: Creation was released only in 550-600 screens in week-1 and around 400 screens in week-2. Despite of the limited screens and target audience, the film has been the top choice of movie-goers for the past two weeks.
Annabelle: Creation got better reviews than the 2014 instalment of the film. The film stands at an international total of $220 million and will end up on the same lines as its prequel which made $260 million at the box-office.
