Both the last week releases have successfully collected their share of moolah at the box-office. Bareilly Ki Barfi stayed decent whereas Annabelle: Creation ended the week on a very strong note.
After posting strong weekend numbers, Annabelle: Creation maintained excellent footfalls in the week days. In fact, the film performed better than the Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet- Ek Prem Katha in the weekdays. Annabelle: Creation collected Rs 23 crore through the weekend and the preview release (15-17 August). The film passed the Monday test with Rs 3.85 crore coming in. Annabelle: Creation raked in another Rs 10 crore in the next 3 days, taking the week-1 total close to Rs 37 crore.
Despite half-a-dozen films releasing this weekend, Annabelle: Creation will retain its share of screens in week-2. After a superb week-1, the exhibitors are betting high on the film with very minor screen cuts in week-2. The second-weekend performance will set the pace for Annabelle: Creation’s lifetime gross. Conjuring-2 is the highest grossing franchise film in India with a total collection of Rs 55 crore. A strong week-2, and who knows, David Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation will dethrone the former. Also, with the success of Annabelle: Creation, the Conjuring franchise became the first horror franchise to cross the billion dollar mark. Looking at the international numbers, the horror flick has gone past the $160 million mark.
The multi-starrer ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ has posted a decent first week. The film was off to a slow start on Day-1, but the good reviews and word of mouth helped the film gain good momentum and Bareilly Ki Barfi grew two folds over the weekend. After posting Rs 11.5 crore in the first three days, the weekday collections were crucial for the film. The film collected Rs 1.90 crore on Monday and Rs 2 crore came in on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday remained on the same lines with Rs 1.65 and Rs 1.66 crore coming in. BKB ended week-1 with Rs 18.72 crore.
The Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s film has been made on a very limited budget and has already raked in some profits for the makers. Looking at the trend, the film will close up at Rs 23-24 crore, which is quite good for the film of this sort. Also, the clutter at the box-office will almost eliminate the chances of BKB performing in week-2 at the box-office.
