Krafton, the South Korean publisher behind the famous game PUBG, has purchased Tango Gameworks, a studio known for producing titles such as The Evil Within, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi RUSH. This move follows Microsoft's previous declaration that Tango Gameworks, along with three other studios, Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios and Roundhouse Games would be closed.
Krafton's acquisition represents a turnaround for Tango Gameworks, which faced an uncertain future following Microsoft's shutdown news in May. The decision to dissolve the firm prompted widespread criticism from fans and industry watchers who admired Tango Gameworks' contributions to the gaming scene.
Syed Arham, an author at TheSolitaire.com, expressed relief and excitement about the acquisition. "Tango Gameworks has created some excellent games. Despite their reputation for dark games like The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, they really struck the target with Hi-Fi RUSH, which received widespread acclaim. "The fact that Krafton is keeping the studio and its projects alive is fantastic news for fans," Arham stated.
In its official release, Krafton emphasised the strategic significance of this acquisition. "KRAFTON, today welcomed the talented people of Tango Gameworks to their team, marking an exciting moment in the company's global expansion and its first significant investment in the Japanese video game market," according to the organisation. Krafton has acquired the rights to Tango Gameworks' acclaimed IP, Hi-Fi RUSH.
Tango Gameworks will work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and continuity after the acquisition. "KRAFTON intends to support the Tango Gameworks team to continue its commitment to innovation and deliver fresh and exciting experiences for fans," according to the release. Existing games including The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo and the original Hi-Fi RUSH will be untouched by the acquisition.
