Union sports minister Anurag Thakur has announced a slew of initiatives to promote sports, and help sportspersons receive financial support, their dues, and other services promptly, without having to run around government offices.
Earlier, a great deal of time was wasted running from pillar to post to get clearances and receive prize amounts due to them.
Thakur launched three major initiatives last week. The websites of the sports ministry, various departments of sports and the associations or councils will provide detailed information on various schemes and plans, welfare or pension schemes, cash initiatives. Eligible sportspersons will now be able to directly apply online and get prompt responses. Till now athletes and other sportspersons had to apply to their associations or the Sports Authority of India or the councils.
This process involved lot of paper work, and consumed time.
The sports ministry will now use technology and work on new systems to cut time and reduce hassles for the sportspersons.
The minister said “we have made our system and the process efficient and transparent.” Our athletes will be saved from a lot of hassles and inconveniences, as a result of these changes, a retired sportsperson said.
