AMU Faculty Invents Bike To Generate Electricity, Grind Spices
'Exercise Cycle Integrated with Grinder and Generator’, a stationary bike invented by Shamshad Ali, Mechanical Engineering Section, University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) produces electricity and grinds spices while boosting muscle strength and endurance.
The invention, recently patented by the Intellectual Property, India channels all the energy that goes into pedaling a bike to an electricity generator and to a machine that grinds spices and makes paste of vegetables.
“The idea behind the inventing this bike was to find a solution to frequent electricity outages and also to use it for other puposes”, said Shamshad.
He pointed out: “This bicycle will not only produce a clean source of energy, but it will also encourage people to fight non-communicable diseases by remaining fit”.
According to the AMU faculty member: “The practical tests showed that pedalling the bike can generate 12 volt at 3200 rpm and successfully grind various spices and make paste of vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, garlic and others”.
“This bike uses a synchronous pulley system to interface with the exercise machine and spin a permanent magnet motor which in turn produces electricity. Adjustable legs and straps secure the generator to different machines. The design for the generator was developed by measuring the geometry of several training stands and exercise bikes”, added Shamshad.
Professor Arshad Umar (Principal, University Polytechnic) informed that this is the seventh invention by Shamshad which has been patented.
