As part of its cost-cutting exercise, Amazon India is moving its corporate headquarters from its current base in the northwest part of Bengaluru to near the city’s airport, according to the media reports. The reports state that the ecommerce and cloud computing giant plans to move out of the World Trade Centre, where it currently occupies around half a million square feet of office space across eighteen of the 30-floor building owned by Brigade Enterprises.
The media reports, citing company executives, stated that the new office of the company is in Sattva, which is a 15-minute drive from the airport on the city’s outskirts. This new office is expected to cost much less for the company as the reports added that it is going to cost less than a third of the nearly Rs 250 per square feet of rent that the company is currently paying.
As per the reports, the company’s relocation plan is likely to commence in April next year and be completed by April 2026. As per the communication by the spokesperson of the company, as mentioned in the media reports, the company’s new campus is a state-of-the-art facility designed to foster enhanced collaboration and deliver an unparalleled employee experience.
The airport corridor of the city is picking up pace as the new growth corridor, with Boeing, Infosys and others buying land parcels in the area, as per the reports. However, the airport of the city, which is about 36 kilometre distance from the city, has yet to be connected to the metro rail. The media reports state that the company’s plan to shift campus raises questions about how the publicly traded real estate developer would find a new tenant.
