Air India subsidiary AISATS, in collaboration with AeroTech Support Services, has introduced AeroWash, a robotic dry wash service for the exterior of aircraft.
With this new system, AISATS aims to be cost-effective and provide savings for airlines while prioritising sustainability.
Sanjay Gupta, CEO at AISATS, said, "The new addition to our services exemplifies AISATS' dedication to sustainability and our relentless pursuit of advanced and eco-friendly solutions in the aviation industry."
This advanced cleaning system will reduce aerodynamic drag, resulting in increased fuel savings and a decreased carbon footprint.
As per the company, the washing system saves time with minimum human intervention and ensures the safety of critical areas not covered under the manual cleaning process, according to the statement.
Dr. Ashwani Khanna from AeroTech Support Services stated, "By incorporating AeroWash equipment at periodic intervals as part of exterior cleaning operations, airlines can achieve significant fuel savings, lower carbon emissions, enhance the airline's brand image, and improve overall profitability. AeroWash cleans beyond naked eye visibility and leaves a polished finish, which reduces skin friction drag on the aircraft."
AISATS has introduced several sustainable solutions in the Indian aviation sector. It recently unveiled a pioneering towable solar-powered passenger ramp bridge at Hyderabad and Delhi airports. Additionally, the company deployed EV buses at Bangalore airport, furthering its commitment to environmental sustainability.
