Shantanu Narayen, CEO and chairman at Adobe, recently spoke to students at his alma mater, Osmania University, sharing his perspective on career choices and work-life balance. In a response to Narayana Murthy's earlier suggestion of a 70-hour workweek for millennials, Narayen encouraged young professionals to follow their own path and prioritise their passions.
Narayen, who was honoured with a Padma Shri award and received an honorary doctorate at the Osmania convocation, emphasised the importance of pursuing one's career goals in alignment with personal aspirations. He stated that he works diligently because of his love for his work and his desire to achieve goals. However, he also pointed out that at Adobe, he supports employees who require time off when needed.
The 60-year-old tech leader highlighted the significance of personal choice and control in shaping one's career and destiny. He urged students to take a long-term perspective on their careers, acknowledging that not everyone can excel in every aspect of their professional life. Narayen used the example of Virat Kohli's occasional underperformance in cricket matches to illustrate that setbacks are a natural part of any journey.
