Admissions For Economically Weaker Section To Be Made Easier
The Delhi directorate of education has ordered the Capital’s private schools to publicly display information regarding the number of seats in the institution, seats reserved for the economically weaker section (EWS) and number of vacancies in each class.
The schools are thus required to put up this information on their notice boards at such a place in their premises that it is visible from outside the campus.
This step has been taken to prevent private schools from refusing admission to applicants from EWS. Often private schools do not inform the public, especially applicants from EWS about any vacancies in the schools to allegedly deny enrollment.
The required information should be displayed both in Hindi and English and it needs to be updated once a week. The schools also need to mention the total number of applications received under the EWS criteria.
Due to the online admission process for students under the EWS quota, schools not only have to update information online but also have to display information publicly on their notice boards.
Applicants under EWS or their parents may not have access to internet or may not be technologically friendly is another reason why the required information needs to be displayed in both Hindi and English.
The schools are also directed to display and update this information on the education department’s website.
This well thought out move by the government is necessary in order to provide updated information to all categories of applicants to ensure quality education is being provided to all.
