The Gautam Adani-led Adani Group is planning to invest USD 2 billion to establish Mumbai's largest international convention centre (ICC), a move that positions it as a direct competitor to Reliance Jio's World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
According to reports, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved the centre's design. Approval for the detailed blueprint is expected within two months. The ICC will be located near the international airport in Vile Parle, a western suburb of Mumbai.
Spanning 1.5 million square feet, the facility will host up to 20,000 people, surpassing the 1 million square feet covered by the Jio World Centre. The Adani hub will feature a total indoor area of 1.2 million square feet, with an additional 0.3 million square feet allocated for parking and other purposes. It will also house a five-star hotel with 275 rooms, adding to its appeal as a premium event destination.
While Adani Realty oversees the group’s real estate ventures, the convention centre will reportedly be owned and managed by Adani Airport Holdings, which operates 11 airports across India.
Convention centres like this play a critical role in fostering trade and export potential by connecting local businesses with global buyers. Prominent centres like New Delhi’s Yashobhoomi and Mumbai’s Birla Matoshree have already contributed to such economic activities.
