Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Aamir Khan, ‘Dangal’ has broken all records at the worldwide box office and the Chinese audiences have just not had enough. The sports biopic has become the first Indian film in the history of Indian cinema to gross Rs 2000 crore at the worldwide box office.
The sports biopic recorded a collection of Rs 2.5 crore on its 53rd day at the Chinese box office with a gross collection of Rs 542.34 crore at the Indian box office, beating the collection numbers of the hindi version of ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’.
With a global box office collection of Rs 2000 crore, ‘Dangal’ has beaten the record of the worldwide collection recorded by ‘Baahubali 2’.
‘Dangal’ is the fifth highest grossing non-English movie in the history after The Mermaid, The Untouchables, Monster Hunt and Your Name. ‘Dangal’ has also become Disney’s fourth biggest hit of 2016.
Dangal also seems to have broken another record and has become the first and only Indian movie with an overseas collection exceeding Rs 1000 crore.
Moreover, this mega blockbuster now stands with another record and has become the first Indian film to gross over $150 million in a single territory (China). Dangal has also become the only Indian movie to be listed among the top 16 highest grossing films of all time at the Chinese box office. The movie has also become the highest grossing live action sports movie of the year.
With so many records broken and new ones created, this sports biopic has won the audiences and critics alike at a global level and the collection numbers worldwide prove likewise.
