On the big idea behind Parivartan
At HDFC Bank, our initiatives under Parivartan are about empowering people to shape their own futures. Whether it’s helping a child stay in school, training entrepreneurs, or improving rural infrastructure, we’re focused on creating lasting, sustainable change. By supporting communities at the grassroots level, in the areas of rural development, education, skill training, healthcare, financial literacy, and environmental efforts, we’re contributing in a small but meaningful way to help build a more resilient, inclusive India.
On its impact in the last decade
Over the last 10 years, the bank has invested upwards of Rs 5,000 crore into projects spread across 28 states and 8 union territories. In FY24 alone, we engaged with over 150 NGO partners and implementing agencies, empowering communities and individuals by creating sustainable livelihoods, fostering sustainable development, and creating real-life change. Our initiatives encompass capacity building, the promotion of financial literacy and entrepreneurial endeavours, along with enhancing skills for agricultural and related practices. Aligned with 9 out of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the programme’s interventions focus on five core areas.
On the power of collaboration and partnerships
Parivartan believes in the power of collaboration and partnerships to achieve greater impact and scale in their CSR projects. We actively engage with over 250 NGOs and government bodies to leverage their expertise, resources, and networks. As one of India’s largest banks with a large distribution network across the country, HDFC Bank has the advantage of understanding the rural and the semi-urban regions of the country. Given our expansive network presence, we have a deep understanding of the socio-cultural aspects of these regions. HDFC Bank employs community-based participatory approach and engages closely with the communities. This helps develop a sense of ownership and commitment from the community.
On next 10-year targets
Building on our decade-long legacy of social interventions, we have set ambitious targets to be achieved by 2025. These include enhancing the livelihoods of 500,000 marginal farmers earning less than ₹60,000 annually and providing skills training to 200,000 individuals to promote self-sufficiency. The Bank aims to support 20,000 institutions to foster sustainable local economies and promote 25,000 community-led enterprises, with at least 50 per cent of these enterprises being women-led. Bringing 200,000 acres of unirrigated land under irrigation, cultivating 100,000 acres of farmland to improve food security and rural incomes, and offering scholarships to 25,000 meritorious underprivileged students to increase access to education are all part of our commitment towards sustainable progress.
