Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, on Thursday (23 March), celebrated its 47th Annual Day. The theme of the function was culturally crafted with a hint of contemporary.
The function was graced upon from the presence of the chief guest, Anurag Batra, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of BW Businessworld magazine and Special Guest Dr Mridula Tandon, President of Sakshi- Center of Information, Education and Communication.
The celebration started off on a zestful note with Sitar performance by the Music Society. The music society of SPM College is the oldest music society of Delhi University.
The soulful performance was followed by a classical dance with a fusion of electronic dance music. Dr Nita took the stage and gave an inspiring speech to the students, which covered all the achievements and accomplishment gained by the students and faculties of the college.
Batra addressed the crowd with a moving speech which was preceded by a speech from Tandon, who praised the achievements and created an empowering ambience through the speech. She quoted lines of a famous writer which construes, to live life and find the true meaning of life.
After the speech by the guests, students were acknowledged for their academic excellence and for bringing glories to the institute.
The Annual Day was concluded with a Sufi Program, Group Dance.
Dr Kaur appreciated the efforts made by the students in making the event a success.
Dr Nita Kumar said this year is special for the college because of the excellent placement results attained by the students with companies like Genpact, Tata Capital, SNP global coming to the college for recruitment. Neeru, head of the Student Union and Anita Yadav, joint secretary, Student Union, talked about the importance of having different annual festivals for different departments, in order to give proper exposure to showcase their talent.
Dr Amna’s and Dr Manjit’s idea of fusing culture and contemporary worked well for the audience as they could not stop applauding and cheering throughout the event. With the blessing of some wonderful guests and performances, this was the perfect way to celebrate the establishment of the institute.
