100% Literacy Will Be Achieved In Next 5 Years: Prakash Javadekar
While speaking at ‘Festival of Education’ organized by Rajasthan Government along with education provider GEMS Education, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that India is set to achieve 100 per cent literacy in the next five years.
There was a literacy rate of only about 18 per cent at the time of independence. With the current literacy rate of about 80 per cent, Javadekar guaranteed that there will be no illiteracy in the country and 100 per cent literacy will be achieved in the near future.
The minister added, that students these days, especially between classes 6 to 12, are being advised and taught to pass on their knowledge to their parents or elderly who have not received any proper education. This way the child becomes a teacher to them. According to Javadekar, this is how illiteracy will be completely eradicated from the country.
Education is not just the ability to read and write but also being able to grasp knowledge.
According to a daily newspaper, he further added, “Our priority is to improve the quality of education. The purpose of education is not just employment but it is important to become a good human being.”
He also mentioned that development of a country is ensured when the quality of education will be improved. Addressing the session in Jaipur at the event, the minster added that countries paying attention to research and innovation will excel in today’s competitive world.
