“Artificial Intelligence And The Modern Education"

Manoj Balachandran, Head CSR IBM India & South Asia and Biswajit Saha, Director of CBSE announced a partnership to implement artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum for classes 11 and 12 in about 200 high schools across 13 Indian states. The curriculum was co-created with Australia's Macquarie University and Indian implementation partners Learning Links Foundation and 1M1B to satisfy CBSE criteria for grades 11 and 12.  

Speaking of the pandemic and its impact, particularly on the education sector, Balachandran believes that educators are expanding their teaching concepts and establishing communication channels with their students as a result of the transition into an online world, which occurred in less than a week. Saha adds, “Teaching is beyond just a profession, it requires educators to continue learning and broaden their views in order to serve and shape the future of tomorrow”.  

Collaboration  
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced a partnership with tech giant IBM to implement artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum for classes 11 and 12 in about 200 high schools across 13 Indian states. The curriculum, created in partnership with IBM, is part of the CBSE's Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action (SEWA) initiative.  

The IBM AI curriculum was launched in collaboration with CBSE with an aim to impart AI skills to 15,000 class 11 & 12 students and 6,000 teachers across India. “Artificial Intelligence (AI) has an influence on many aspects of our life. The question on educators' and economists minds is how technology will influence jobs in the future, and how can we educate our kids to compete in an increasingly automated, AI-driven society. Our exciting cooperation with CBSE aims to solve some of these obstacles by creating one of the most accessible and comprehensive portals for students to begin their AI adventure. AI will undoubtedly become widespread in our lives in the next few years, and it is essential to instil the knowledge and skills needed early in high school”. Balachandran sums up.  

Artificial Intelligence In Schools  
AI technologies are having a significant impact on the current educational system. Moreover, modern technology has created a chance for millions of individuals all over the world to broaden their educational horizons. Saha asks, "Are we prepared for this technological well-being? Yes, I feel so, it is very much essential to put this AI curriculum in school. The development of artificial intelligence has the potential to provide a lot of new possibilities and enhancements to the educational system.” Shah also commends IMB for its excellent work and for directly assisting students in understanding the business technological requirements. “IBM has shown itself as a technological giant, and it is clear from a solution-centric perspective that technology solutions are deeply embedded in their DNA”. He added  

Balachandran agrees with Saha's statement He adds “Prevalence of AI has risen substantially in recent years. There is no doubt that technology has benefited in the dissemination of information — curiously, AI has enhanced the efficiency of learning systems. Evidently, today's students do not visit libraries and spend hours searching for the information they want. They can search for and show anything in seconds. Personalization based on AI has made the process of acquiring knowledge much easier. So, it’s high time we should start investing in future.” He also believes that AI can act as a bridge between Students and Tutors “With the aid of smart tutoring systems, AI can make student-teacher interaction easier”.  

Future Outcomes  
Saha expresses his gratitude by saying "With IBM's assistance, we are delighted to be paving the path for the nation by establishing such an innovative training-based learning method for students and instructors. He also foretold AI's eventual outcomes. “Artificial intelligence in education will fill gaps. It will provide everyone with the option to get a better education in sectors that are more suitable for them. It will help students reach their greatest potential.” 

Balachandran discusses his experience with this programme in terms of ensuring that educators will be adequately taught Artificial Intelligence. It will strengthen problem-based learning objectives and evaluation techniques for teachers to create basic AI abilities in students, transforming them from mere consumers to producers of AI. “Teacher training became essential because only via instructors students can be motivated to think about AI from a problem-solving perspective or not,” says Balachandran
