It Is Oktoberfest For Two-wheeler Companies

An early festival season witnessed an increase in auto sale in October

Even though car sales have been on a downhill during October, two-wheeler sales during the same month has been on an uphill. Most of the two-wheeler firms have witnessed an upward surge in volumes during the festive season.

Royal Enfield, a unit of Eicher Motors, registering a growth of 18% during Oct’17 at 69,492 units vis-à-vis 59,127 units sold during the same period last year. The domestic sales of Royal Enfield stood at 68,014 units, as against 58,379 units sold in October 2016.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) recorded a year-on-year growth of 22.27 % in October 2017 as it sold 50,148 units vis-à-vis 41,013 units in the same month last year. Its domestic sales stood at 46,020 units in October as against 36,493 units in the same month last year, a growth of 26.1 percent.

Bajaj Auto reported a 7% growth at 382,464 units in October 2017 as compared to 356,168 units in the same month last year. Its motorcycle sales stood at 325,778 units in October 2017, against 307,892 units in the same month last year, registering a 6% growth. Its domestic motorcycle sales went down by 1 % to 211,553 units as against 212,997 units in October last year.

TVS witnessed a 3% increase at 317,411 units in October 2017 vis-à-vis 3083,690 units sold in the same month last year. The domestic two-wheeler sales stood at 270,372 units in October as against 272,229 units sold in the same month last year.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) reported a little over five per cent dip in the October sales at 4,66,535 units, as against 4,92,237 units sold during the corresponding month last year. Its domestic sales stood at 437,531 units, as opposed to the 470,358 units in October 2016. However, it has set a new record in festive sales with cumulative sales for the September-October period zipping past 13.5 lakh-mark.

Hero MotoCorp reported a 4.83% drop in sales at 631,105 units in October as compared to 663,153 units in the same month last year. The company clocked its sixth consecutive months of six- lakh plus sales in October this year.
