For The ‘Always Tired’ Person

The moment you start treating yourself with care, miraculous things can happen.

The most common complaint I hear from senior management professionals is, “I’m tired, I need sleep.” Travel, less sleep, poor quality sleep, high stress, low nutritional quality meals, all contribute to chronic fatigue. At a stage in your life then, when you need the maximum energy to manage your work, team, finances, ageing parents, growing children, expectant spouses, you’re just always tired. You’re unable to do what you set out to do, your goals and ambitions get compromised, and you’re not that “nice” person to know. Instead, the Mr or Ms Crabby takes over.

This isn’t you. And deep inside, you know that. So how do you get back your energy while doing your work, and carrying on your responsibilities? How do you stay sharp, bright, happy? Here are some tips:

L-Glutathione is an amino acid and an exceptional antioxidant that can whirr up your energy cycle like nothing else. Traditionally used to heal cancer patients and make chemotherapy more effective and in extremely large doses for skin whitening, low dose L-glutathione works by reducing cellular damage caused by free radicals, hence protecting your body. It also makes other antioxidants like vitamin C and E function better. An average adult needs about 5 grams that a young, healthy body can manufacture on its own when a nutritionally dense diet is given. But due to low nutrition, high stress, less sleep and age, glutathione production reduces. There are enough studies to show that declined glutathione levels make people more prone to heart disease, asthma, depression, arthritis, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Get your glutathione from natural sources like beets, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, aloe vera, bark extract, good fats like alpha lipoic acid, and supplements like milk thistle and grape extract can increase L-glutathione production. Those with extremely high chronic fatigue can consult a nutritional expert and get L-Glutathione supplements prescribed as well. I have seen patients with chronic fatigue literally zoom up within 15 days of consuming more L-glutathione, and they are able to stay alert, be less moody, exercise better and have more energy.

Don’t ever compromise on sleep. There is absolutely no working around this fact. Less sleep has been linked to heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, accelerated ageing, fatigue, memory loss, disorientation and studies have actually proven that less sleep can eventually kill you. Is it worth cringing on sleep then? What is more important than you staying alive and healthy and sharp and lean (yes, you lose weight when you sleep well)? If you are all of that, you will get more work done in less time anyway. So don’t work like a donkey for long hours to get the same job done. Getting good quality sleep anywhere you want can be achieved with guided meditation, cutting sleep apnea and having sleep inducing teas like chamomile tea, and eating magnesium rich foods like dark leafy greens, fish, nuts, seeds, and yes, a small amount of dark chocolate!

Focus on quality. Whether it’s sleep, nutritionally dense food or moderate exercise like yoga, never disrespect your body and mind. The moment you start treating yourself with care, miraculous things can happen: you heal from allergies, your stress levels reduce automatically, your memory improves, your muscle mass goes up, leading to higher metabolic rate, your bones become stronger, your pain levels reduce and your moods get happier. Quality invites quality, so gift yourself a good quality life and watch your work output and relationships improve.

Ultimately, it’s a short life. Cut corners by treating your body shabbily and you will be tired all the time. Invest time and resources in all the above, and watch the only life you have get more meaningful and happier.
